Ozul is the cinematic, prog-rock solo project of Norwegian/Costa Rican filmmaker Paulo Chavarría, blending atmospheric textures with the conceptual depth of progressive metal.
Short bio:
Ozul is the solo project of Norwegian/Costa Rican filmmaker Paulo Chavarría. Drawing from a wide spectre of influences—from progressive rock and post-rock slopes to classical music and metal—Ozul's sound has been described by media as "cinematic & ethereal."
The debut album, «Provenance» (2023), was nominated as a Debut Album of the Year by Progrock.com and gained international radio play for its exploration of isolation and mental health.
The powerful follow-up, «Man on the Shore» (2024), is a concept album tackling the tragedy of parental alienation and grief. The story is thematically linked to Chavarría's 2022 documentary, "The Bothersome Father," which explored the real-world judicial and political challenges of parent/child separation.
All instruments, vocals, production, and visuals for the Ozul project are created by Paulo Chavarría.
