Ozul is the solo project of Norwegian / Costarrican filmmaker Paulo Chavarría. It is a prog-driven project that blends a wide spectre of influences and different music genres; ranging from progressive rock, electronic soundscapes, classical music, psychedelic prog, and metal. It is also heavily inspired by the Norwegian landscape and nature. Media has described the music as "cinematic & ethereal", and "swinging through delicate post-rocking slopes».
Ozul ́s debut album «Provenance» was nominated as one of the debut albums of 2023 by progrock.com. This debut album dealt with themes of isolation, existential angst, mental health and human relationships. It gathered attention being played in several radio stations, and radio shows worldwide. The music video for the track "Lønahorgi" was descried by the media as: "it is not a song... it is six and a half minutes of art".
Ozul released its second record «Man on the shore» in 2024. The record deals with the issues of grief, struggle and parental alienation. The narrative and story of this record focuses on the tragedy of the life of a character as he grapples with an uphill battle to keep contact with his child after a divorce. This record is linked to a documentary film that Chavarría directed in 2022, titled «The bothersome father», which dealt with exactly the same subject of child / parent separation, the riveting challenges for those involved, and the complicated political and judicial issues this raises.
All instruments, vocals, mix and mastering by Chavarría.
